History can repeat itself

Florida Gov Ron DeSantis is repeating a familiar pattern of negative political behavior in order to secure support from the Christian Right. In 2023.

Like Florida activist Anita Bryant in the 1970’s, their false anti-gay rhetoric is causing people harm.

Bryant faced consequences such as being dropped by her booking agent. and losing Florida advertising support. She even filed bankruptcy twice.

Her predecessor, Florida Commissioner  Charley Johns targeted desegregation and  the LGBT teaching staff in the 1950’s to gain votes.

The “Christian Right”  has consistently targeted marginalized groups, from the LGBTQ+ community to people of color. Their actions, like book banning and anti-transgender education, are far from Christian values.

I attended Catholic grammar, Prep and College. I was taught to believe that God is my father and that He loves me unconditionally just as he created me.

Love, not hate is a Christian value and should be at the core of any religious message.

We must break this cycle of misinformation and prioritize compassion over discrimination in our political parties and leaders.

29 percent of gay, lesbian and bisexual high school students reported attempting suicide in 2014 as compared to 6 percent of heterosexual teens.
Since same sex “Marriage” became legal nationally in 2015. There are 134,000 less LGBT teenage suicide attempts yearly.
Words matter. These kids have hope because the word is now part of their conversation.
